Authors’ Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation

- Manuscript Preparation
1.1 General Requirements
- Manuscripts must be written in clear, academic English.
- Use Times New Roman, font size 12 pt, single-column layout.
- Paper size: Letter; Margins:
- Top/Bottom: 2.98 cm
- Left: 2.0 cm
- Right: 1.61 cm
- Submit manuscripts only in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.
- Do not include line numbers.
- Each manuscript must be submitted once only; the system assigns a unique submission ID.
1.2 English Language Quality
Authors whose first language is not English must ensure the manuscript is written in fluent, academic English (American or British—do not mix both).
NJDCHP does not offer language-editing services. Authors are encouraged to seek professional editing prior to submission if necessary.
1.3 New Submissions
- The manuscript must include all figures and tables embedded within the main document.
- Place figures and tables in the correct logical order under the Results section.
- Do not upload tables or figures as separate files unless requested.
1.4 References
References must follow the NJDHCP citation style, formatted as:
Author(s). Title of the article. Journal Abbreviation. Year;Volume(Issue):Page range. DOI or URL.
- Enter references manually in MS Word—do not use EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc.
- Include DOIs whenever available; otherwise, provide a working URL.
- Incorrect referencing may result in rejection before review.
1.5 Revised Submissions
Revised manuscripts must:
- Be submitted as a .docx file using NJDCHP's required formatting.
- Include the following:
- Full author names
- Institutional affiliations
- Email addresses
- ORCID iDs
All revisions must be clearly highlighted in red text or yellow shading.
- Manuscript Structure
Manuscripts must be organized as follows:
2.1 Title
- Maximum 17 words.
- Avoid abbreviations and geographic names.
2.2 Abstract
- Length: 150–250 words.
- Must include:
- Study objectives
- Methodology
- Key findings
- Novelty/Originality
- Main conclusions
- No abbreviations or citations.
2.3 Keywords
- Provide 3–5 keywords in alphabetical order.
- Avoid repeating words from the title.
- No abbreviations.
2.4 Highlights
Mandatory: Provide 3–5 concise bullet points summarizing the main contributions of the study.
2.5 Introduction
Provide background, theoretical context, relevant literature, and the study objective(s), especially within digital cultural heritage fields.
2.6 Materials and Methods
- Provide sufficient detail to allow others to reproduce the work.
- Cite sources for standard procedures.
- Ensure adherence to ethical standards (particularly for studies involving communities, heritage handling, or digital collections).
- Use SI units and mention statistical or digital analysis software used.
2.7 Results
- Present findings clearly and objectively.
- Avoid duplication between figures and tables.
- Number tables and figures in the order cited in the text.
2.8 Discussion
- Interpret the findings within the context of existing scholarship.
- Compare your results with previous research in archaeology, anthropology, heritage studies, conservation, or digital humanities.
- Avoid repeating numerical data.
2.9 Conclusion
- Summarize the primary findings and their significance to cultural heritage preservation.
- Do not include citations.
2.10 Acknowledgments
Acknowledge supporting individuals, institutions, or funding bodies, including grant numbers when applicable.
2.11 Conflict of Interest
Required statement:
“The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest regarding the publication and/or funding of this manuscript.”
2.12 References
- Use numbered references in the order they appear: [1], [2], [3].
- List them accordingly at the end.
- Authors must follow recognized journal abbreviations in accordance with APA 7th edition standards where applicable.
- Tables
- Do not submit tables as images.
- Embed tables within the manuscript.
- Number tables consecutively and provide clear titles and captions.
- Cite sources for any reused data.
- Figures
- Submit high-resolution figures (200–300 dpi).
- Embed figures within the manuscript.
- Captions must:
- Begin with “Figure X:”
- Appear below the figure
- Describe all elements clearly
- Include citations for reused visual material
- Final Submission Checklist
Before final submission, authors must ensure:
- Full compliance with the NJDHCP Guide for Authors.
- Manuscript meets all ethical, structural, and formatting requirements.
- Correct grammar, spelling, and consistency throughout.
- Approval of all co-authors.
- Registration on the NJDHCP platform with a complete author biosketch.
